What is My Neighbor Alice?

My Neighbor Alice is a blockchain-based play-to-earn builder game that was developed by an interactive mobile game studio called Antler Interactive.

Inspired by the Animal Crossing island ownership, Alice allows players to build their own farms and earn a revenue out of them. In order to join the game, a player is required to own land. However, anyone can enter and watch the game for free before they decide to make their first purchase.

Various in-game items, such as buildings, plants, animals, can be used to decorate players’ territories. The lands as well as other items are offered as NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens). These NFTs can be purchased on the market, and then deployed in the game, or traded with other players within the game.

Additionally, players can personalize their game characters and even design the assets to their liking by using an NFT Creator. The players progress through the game by completing activities, doing favours to their neighbors, and taking part in competitions.

How does My Neighbor Alice work?

My Neighbor Alice will operate on the Chromia platform, a blockchain platform for decentralized applications. Chromia’s relational blockchain database serves as the backend of the game, while Unity provides the game’s frontend. Gaming operations, token transfers, marketplace logic, as well as voting and governance are all done on Chromia.

Chromia Originals, the blockchain’s NFT standards, are more data-rich than other NFTs on the market and allow transferring tokens to other blockchains, like Ethereum and BNB Chain. Chromia’s design will also allow creating unique assets. Interestingly, the accessories used for crafting new things will disappear, making the game more interactive. For example, the paint used for dying clothing will vanish once the item is dyed.

One of the outstanding features My Neighbor Alice designed is the collateral-filled NFTs (cNFTs). These NFTs let their owners earn a monthly interest on their NFT holdings and also gain access to instant liquidity by locking their NFTs. When a player buys a land or another asset, a certain percentage of the paid amount will go into the collateral pool. The pool is primarily used to earn users interest, the amount of which is based on their contribution. Upon the user’s request, Alice will lock the NFT and return the collateral amount to the owner. Thus, if users need immediate liquidity, they do not have to wait until their NFT is sold on the marketplace, but instead can receive the partial amount of the NFT price at once.

My Neighbor Alice has an open on-chain world where players can explore the environment, purchase assets and communicate and interact with other users through their avatars.

Alice's world is situated on the Lummelunda archipelago, which consists of several virtual islands divided into sections of land called plots. The plots, just as other items in the game, are represented in the form of NFTs priced depending on their rarity and scarcity. Notably, lands can be owned by a single player or shared among friends, which allows lower cost per capita. The total number of lands is limited to approximately 100,000 pieces, which will help to regulate the value of NFTs.

Some plots of lands have already been sold through the Land Sale Lottery, where users can participate by staking ALICE. There are expected to be more lotteries, and the rest will be offered for purchase directly in Alice and on the marketplace. While half of the plots in the game are available for ownership to the public, the other 50% of land is reserved for rental and public facilities.

The land in the user's ownership can be decorated with various in-game items, which can be purchased on the marketplace. These items include houses, animals, veggies, decorations, and cosmetic items for the player's avatar. There will be limited editions of these items selling both on internal and external markets. Users will also have a right to generate new objects, but each user will be limited to a certain amount of copies.

My Neighbor Alice rewards its players for being good citizens. The progression in the game can be achieved through the completion of quests, favours, and other activities. The game has a clear social orientation, as it encourages community interaction and offers possibilities for players to work on shared goals by combining their resources. There will also be a decentralized forum for the Alice’s players, where they will be able to make friends and discuss the questions related to the DAO and the game.

How to use My Neighbor Alice?

To connect to My Neighbor Alice, wallet such as Metamask can be used. Currently, users can only participate in land sales. The date for each sale is announced in advance on the official channels. The lands which will remain after the lotteries will be claimable in the game once the game is launched. The dates for the My Neighbor Alice app alpha and beta seasons are specified on the game’s official website.

According to the demo presentation, the game’s environment represents a typical Scandinavian town. Once you are in the game, you are greeted by the character called Alice and guided by her throughout the game. While exploring the neighboring lands, you can talk to the locals and introduce yourself to make friends.

The game will have a quick panel, where you will be able to see the entire map and your inventory. Looking at the map, you will see an archipelago divided into several islands. You can view the owned plots, represented by small dots, by zooming the map in. The plots will be available for purchase both inside and outside of the game.

Each plot can be entered by simply clicking on it. The plot environment will be unique to the area where it is located. Even without NFT assets, you can change the typography of your plot. By owning NFT items, you can build houses or keep animals on your land, which will help you to progress in the game. In addition, the game has a storyline, through which players advance as they perform tasks.

At the moment, the only type of fees My Neighbor Alice has is the transaction fee for purchasing and selling non-fungible assets.

My Neighbor Alice staking

By participating in My Neighbor Alice staking, users receive tickets for the Land Sale lottery. Tokens can be deposited directly on the Lottery board. The minimum deposit amount is 50 ALICE, which is equivalent to 50 tickets. Each additional ALICE will bring 1 more ticket. If the user didn’t win the lottery, the tokens can be kept for the next round or withdrawn.

The ALICE token

ALICE serves as a native token of My Neighbor Alice and is used for in-game purchases and users’ rewards. ALICE also exists in ERC-20 and BEP-20 versions. As Alice is built on the Chromia blockchain, which functions as a Layer 2 to other blockchains, there will be a mechanism to move the ALICE token back and forth between the Chromia and the Ethereum network.

There is a fixed supply of ALICE tokens capped at 100 million. Out of the total supply, 21 million was distributed during the token sale, 15 million allocated to the team and advisors, 15 million spent on community and marketing,  20 million held in reserve, 16 million saved for the game developments, and 5 million used for user incentives. The remaining 8 million tokens will be paid to the platform users for their participation in the game competitions and activities.

The ALICE token has several utilities, including payments, governance, play to earn, and decentralized finance.

Holding ALICE enables players to participate in the government process by voting for the platform-related proposals. The voters will also receive rewards for their active participation in DAO.

As an in-game currency, ALICE can be used for purchasing land, assets, and skill sets in the game. The owners can rent out their land and assets to other players for a certain fee in ALICE tokens. Additionally, users can send tokens in chats with neighbors.

The tokens’ DeFi features will include staking, buybacks, and collateralization. By staking ALICE users not only earn rewards but also gain access to certain quests and special features in the game.

Finally, players can earn ALICE by earning points for completing different quests and after that purchase new assets with these tokens.

Is My Neighbor Alice safe?

There have not been any audit reports officially published yet.

Alice was developed by blockchain game studio, Antler Interactive, which is located in Stockholm, Sweden. Lenny Peterson, the company’s CEO, has extended experience with the media and tech industry.

In 2019, Antler Interactive was acquired by blockchain technology company ChromaWay, creators of Chromia. ChromaWay, also based in Stockholm, has been developing blockchain-based solutions since 2014. It was founded by a Hedget investor Or Perelman and Henrik Hjelte.

Partners

The main partner of My Neighbor Alice is Chromia, a decentralized public blockchain. Chromia aims to make blockchain responsive and easy to use by both developers and users. Its unique technical architecture, together with relational databases, is perfect for complex game design with logic on-chain. Also, by staking CHR tokens on Chromia, users receive additional tickets for the Land Lottery participation.

What's next?

Alice is going to introduce the game alpha season and game resources in 2022. The beta season is set to come out in 2023.
